1. Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram)
Topping the list is the largest and widest of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia. The mosque was first built in 638 and currently has an area of 400,800 square meters. When the pilgrims arrived, the Grand Mosque can accommodate up to 4 million more pilgrims. This mosque is one of the holiest places of Islam and also the center of the prayer in the world. In the middle there is the Kaaba was built by Prophet Ibrahim AS. In addition, there are also wells ZamZam which is located not too far away from the Kaaba.
2. Nabawi Mosque (Masjid Nabawi)
Nabawi Mosque also known as the Mosque of the Prophet. The second largest mosque in the world is located in the city of Medina, Medina Province, Saudi Arabia. The mosque which is the second holy place for Muslims, originally the home of the Prophet Muhammad. After his death, Muhammad was also buried in this mosque, which is located just below the Green Dome. Nabawi Mosque itself currently has a wide area of up to 400-500 square meters. Built in 622, this mosque can accommodate up to 1 million pilgrims arrive when the pilgrimage season.
3. Mosque of Imam Reza
The third biggest mosque is the mosque of Imam Reza. This mosque is the burial place of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of the 12th Imam who is believed by adherents of Shia. The mosque is located in Masshad, Iran, and a capacity of up to 700 thousand people. Imam Reza Mosque built in 818 and now has an area of 598,657 square meters. 4. Istiqlal mosque
Compared to the previous three mosques, the fourth largest mosque in the world is quite a young age. It was built in 1978, this mosque is located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Has an area of 95 thousand square meters, the mosque is able to accommodate 120 thousand worshipers. This mosque is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and Indonesia is the National Mosque. The mosque is diarsitekturi by Frederich Silaban, a Christian arstitek who won the design competition mosque in 1955. The name "Istiqlal" itself derived from Arabic which means "Freedom".
5. Hassan II Mosque
In the fifth, is the mosque Hassan II, located in Kasablanka, Morocco. The mosque was built in 1993 and has a land area of up to 90 thousand square meters with a capacity of up to 105 thousand pilgrims. This mosque has a tower 210 meters high and is the world's tallest minarets. Designed by French architect, Michel Pinseau, almost the entire building is situated above the water overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
